Mob assaults Sub-Inspector in Mahoba after tragic death of minor; five detained as video surfaces

The Uttar Pradesh Police have apprehended five individuals connected to the mob that attacked Sub-inspector Ram Avtar in Mahoba district. The attack occurred when Sub-inspector Ram Avtar and his team attempted to clear a road blockade. A video of the attack, featuring several individuals physically assaulting the sub-inspector, has since gone viral on social media.

The incident unfolded on Monday in Mahoba's Panwari area, where a protest emerged following the tragic death of a 13-year-old boy who was struck by a bus while cycling home. In response to the incident, the boy's family and locals placed his body on a road, demanding both strict action against the bus driver responsible and compensation.

Upon receiving information about the road blockade, Sub-inspector Ram Avtar arrived at the scene with his team to disperse it. However, the mob turned hostile, assaulting him with sticks. In the face of the attack, three members of the police team fled the scene, leaving Sub-inspector Ram Avtar to face the mob alone.

Later, the Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) and Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) for the area arrived at the location to calm the mob. They also arranged for Ram Avtar to receive medical treatment at a nearby hospital.

During the police's efforts to apprehend the individuals involved in the incident, two of the accused attempted to escape and even seized a police officer's service weapon while being transported in a police van. They fired at the officers but were ultimately subdued by the police. In the exchange of fire, the two accused, identified as Parashurama and Monu, sustained injuries, and two constables and a sub-inspector suffered minor injuries.
